S6 - ADVANCED HIGHER

The course continues from the Higher-Grade course and extends the knowledge and skills from Higher-Grade Mathematics knowledge and required much more detailed level of mathematical knowledge, skill and understanding.  Students complete three units consisting of outcomes covering including Further Differentiation and Integration, Systems of Linear Equations, Complex Numbers, Sequences and Series, Elementary Number Theory, Further Vectors, Matrices, Differential Equations. The course is assessed by in a single examination in May.

During the course there are three unit Assessments based on completed units of work and there is a final examination at the end of the course. The Unit Assessments must all be passed to a set standard (by the SQA) before an overall award will be made for the course. The final examination consists of a single three hour paper where full retention of all formulae and processes are required.
