S5 AND S6 - MODERN STUDIES HIGHER

The Higher course in Modern Studies develops understanding of the political and social processes operating in the contemporary world by requiring students to study issues from within the UK and the wider world.  The course also contributes to personal and social development by addressing the area of rights and responsibilities in a democratic society and the moral and ethical responsibilities of individuals.

This is done through the study of three syllabus areas:

Study Theme 1B Decision Making in Central Government

Study Theme 1D Electoral Systems, Voting and Political Attitudes

Social Issues in the UK

Study Theme 2. Wealth and Health Inequalities in the United Kingdom

International Issues

Study Theme 3C The United States of America
