S5 AND S6 - MODERN STUDIES INTERMEDIATE 2

The aim of this course is to develop, within a balanced structure, the pupil's knowledge and understanding of contemporary political, social and international issues and the skill of evaluating.  This is done through the study of three syllabus areas:

Political Issues in the UK:

Government and Decision Making in Central Government

Social Issues in the UK:

Equality in Society: Wealth and Health in the United Kingdom

International Issues:

The United States of America.

Modern Studies also contributes to personal and social development by addressing issues relating to rights and responsibilities of an individual in a democratic society and the moral and ethical responsibilities of individuals.

Please note that to allow pupils to progress from Intermediate 1 without covering the same material, to articulates with the Higher Modern Studies Course and for candidates from other social subjects to start from the same point as others we do not cover the same topics in S5 as were studied in S3/4.
