S1 – S2 HOME ECONOMICS: CURRICULUM FOR EXCELLENCE

S1

All our S1 pupils have a weekly 55 minute lesson. The course is split into units of work covering topics in Food and Fabric Studies which include elements of Consumer Education as well as Design and  Make Activities. Food Preparation is a major focus of our work where children learn to work in the kitchen in a safe and hygienic manner to produce dishes generally in line with Current Dietary Advice. We do allow treats from time to time! This work is underpinned by the theory of Food Hygiene and Safety as well as Healthy Eating. The charge of £15 is collected at the beginning of S1. We do ask for your support in providing a plastic container for the safe transportation of food products home for the family to enjoy.

 

S2

All our S2 pupils have one 50- 55 minute lesson per week. As with S1, the course is split into units covering topics in Food and Fabric Studies which include elements of Consumer Education as well as Design and Make Activities. Practical food lessons build on the skills covered in S1 with the introduction of technology into the kitchen to widen the range of food preparation skills. As well as continuing to incorporate Current Dietary Guidelines into the food dishes, Foods from Around the World are also studied. The charge of £15 is collected at the beginning of S2. We do ask for your support in providing a plastic container for the safe transportation of food products home for the family to enjoy.
