S5 / S6 HIGHER ART AND DESIGN

Purpose

As S3/S4, to promote and apply knowledge, understanding and skills of investigation, media handling, problem solving and evaluation through expressive and design practical activities, linked to related contextual and evaluative studies.

Course Details

The Intermediate courses consist of 3 mandatory units.  The three units are as follows:

Expressive Activity – e.g. drawing, painting, collage, printmaking and sculpture. Finished art work will evolve from selection and development of a particular idea and should communicate a personal response.

Design Activity- e.g. graphics, fashion/textiles and three dimensional designs.

Design Activity will involve practical engagement with design issues, problems, needs or opportunities.

Art & Design Studies

In this unit students will learn about the working methods of artists and designers. Their studies will be simultaneous with and link directly to the practical activities being undertaken (Expressive and Design). 

Higher candidates will study the history and developments in art and design from the 19th to 21st centuries.
